As the name suggests, an enormous proportion of Parkville is comprised of parkland, primarily within the bounds of Royal Park, home to top sporting facilities including Royal Park Golf Course, the exotic inhabitants of Melbourne Zoo, and the suburb's train station. Much of Melbourne's brains trust calls Parkville home, with major hospitals, research centres and The University of Melbourne situated within her borders. At the same time, a vast number of the locals are young and bright, including scores of tertiary students, and pupils of the public yet prestigious University High School. With coveted heritage homes and chic modern apartments on offer, Parkville is a mere 3 kilometres north of the CBD, so it's easy to travel to exciting city venues when the bright lights call.
